So you wanna make Mondaloy like NASA?

  1. Start with Pure 6061-T6 Aluminum: Not just any crap off the shelf-melt it down, vacuum-purify to remove impurities like copper and iron.
  2. Add 3% Enriched Lithium-7: Reduces density, keeps strength. They use enriched lithium for thermal stability-not that regular shit from batteries.
  3. Mix in 0.5% Tungsten Carbide Particles: Grind them into powder, mix mechanically, creates micro-hardening sites against fatigue cracks.
  4. Samarium (0.2%) for Grain Control: Suppresses growth during casting so your crystal structure stays tight at cryo temps without embrittlement.
  5. Casting Process: Pour into preheated ceramic molds under argon gas flow to prevent oxidation-then hit it with ultrasonic cavitation to eliminate voids as it solidifies.
  6. Solution Heat Treatment & Cryogenic Quenching: Heat to 520°C for 24 hours, then straight into liquid nitrogen (-196°C). Locks in precipitates without over-aging.
  7. Aging Cycle (Proprietary): Three cycles of heating (180°C) followed by rapid cooling with compressed air jets at stress points-a technique called “thermal shock conditioning.”
  8. Final Machining & Silver Coating: Machine into parts (e.g., fuel tank domes), electroplate silver for thermal conductivity and corrosion protection when mated with other metals.
